Microsoft 365 Copilot
Microsoft Copilot is a suite of AI-powered assistance features integrated across Microsoft's software ecosystem, including Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.), Windows 11, and Microsoft Dynamics 365, as well as within some of its developer tools on GitHub. Built on advanced AI models, including OpenAI's large language models, Copilot helps users perform tasks faster and more efficiently by generating text, summarizing information, automating repetitive processes, streamlining tasks, offering real-time suggestions, and data analysis.
This webpage focuses on Microsoft 365 Copilot with instructions for Viterbi faculty and staff to purchase a licensed copy of Microsoft 365 Copilot.
Scope of Availability
- Access for Employees: Faculty and Staff can request funding approval for Microsoft 365 Copilot from their local department Administrative Unit Lead.
- Students: Microsoft 365 Copilot is not currently available for students
- iVIPs: Not eligible as they receive A1 licenses that do not include the Office Suite.
License Costs and Request Process
- The Microsoft 365 Copilot license fee is $30 per user per month on a 12-month subscription plan.
- Faculty or staff members may request approval for a licensed copy of M365 Copilot from their Administrative Unit Lead and fill out the Microsoft 365 Copilot Request form. Viterbi IT will only procure a Microsoft 365 Copilot license with the Administrative Unit Lead approval and a valid account number (PPGG) for the license fee.
- The Viterbi IT team reviews the request, places the order for licenses, and notifies ITS of which accounts need to be licensed.

- Microsoft 365 Copilot:
- Integrated across Microsoft Office applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and more.
- Aimed at business and personal productivity, it offers AI-generated summaries, content drafting, data analysis, and organization features.
- Key features include generating Word documents, creating PowerPoint presentations, analyzing Excel data, summarizing email threads in Outlook, and facilitating meetings in Teams.
- Windows Copilot:
- Integrated within Windows 11 as a centralized AI assistant.
- Accessible directly from the Windows desktop, it provides help with system settings, app suggestions, web-based information retrieval, and more.
- Simplifies routine tasks like adjusting settings, launching apps, managing notifications, and even summarizing on-screen content.
- Dynamics 365 Copilot:
- Embedded in Microsoft Dynamics 365, which includes applications for CRM (Customer Relationship Management) and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning).
- Primarily aimed at business users, such as sales, customer service, marketing, and finance teams.
- Helps generate personalized responses, analyze customer data, suggest next actions, and automate sales and marketing processes.
- GitHub Copilot:
- Aimed at developers, this version assists with code generation and automation within GitHub and Visual Studio Code.
- Provides real-time code suggestions, autocompletes, code explanations, and debugging support.

- Edge Copilot
